no touching!

i had to share this with y’all, and i know that mom will be cool with it, because one, she’s cool like that – and two, she’s the one who stirred this all up. i believe her very words were, “watch this – this is funny…andrew! give julianne a hug! watch, watch…” :)

sometimes mom will ask the kids to hug, and it’s the most natural thing in the world…other times you get hilarious and sweet moments like this – more akin to my own childhood. i certainly yelled my fair share of, “momma! he’s touching me!”

and no, i did not insert the “that was funny” image randomly – that was the exact look on andrew’s face after he had attempted the hug for our entertainment. and that little smirk at the end when she is about to fall from pushing him! ha! priceless…

don’t you think this would make a great christmas card?? i’m just sayin’…

more traditional cuteness coming from these two soon…

luke and the rock-a-stack series…

rock-a-stack? did you know it was called this? they were gonna call it, “that fisher-price multi-colored plastic doughnut toy that you stack the rings on the webble wobble base…” but apparently they weren’t movin’ any units.

wanted to give you a fun pop of color, cause the rest of luke’s sneak peek is going to be in pure black and white…

i go through unexplainable phases where i shun color and want to process everything in black and white.

i’m in one of those phases right now.

back from tuscaloosa and a piggy-back triptych…

first the triptych – wanted to share some more jaydon funtime…

Hey guys – just wanted to make a quick post and check in – I let my blogging get away from me last week while I was trying to coordinate my trip to T-town. I had a fantastic time in Tuscaloosa, so thanks to everyone who spent the weekend with me. In the next day or two I will make a “Here is one shot of everyone” – post. More and more I’m finding my style of shooting and my clients are jumping right on board – it’s very exciting and I can’t wait for you to see some of the stuff we got.

see you soon!

Piper and Will, Part Two of Two: the magnolia tree…

I think I am partial to these images because they remind me of my own childhood. I spent many hours in the summers of my childhood with my cousin, up in the branches of a huge magnolia tree in my grandmothers back yard. I would love to have a picture of us, up in that tree. They are just incredible climbing trees – is there a better climbing tree? I don’t know…anyway…

Another reason I am partial to these images is because I feel strongly that they fully represent who I am as a photographer. In other words, if someone were seeing my stuff for the first time – I would want them to see this…candid, casual, custom portraits…sorry for the alliteration.. :)

we’ll start with Piper first entering the branches of the tree…

i can so see this one and the first or second image below it printed in wall size prints and hung up on the wall together, so gorgeous…

this one is just a canvas sample waiting to happen – can’t wait to see it printed…

i can’t decide because i really love this one too…

sittin’ up in my very own giant rock chair – woo hoo!

i like this expression, it’s very thoughtful…

love this expression too, “ooohh, look at the view from up here!”…

with a little help from mommy, “bus bus” got to enjoy the view from a tree limb too…

yea for close-ups!!!

there are no words to describe how adorably awesome this image is…okay, well, adorable is one, but it doesn’t quite cut it – new to the top 10 favorite images of my entire portfolio, right here…

LOVE it in color, but any image that rocks in color – can equally rock in other looks…

What a great afternoon! Thanks guys!

Piper and Will, Part One of Two: the storybook series…

Okay, so I have been driving mom crazy, telling her I was almost ready to post the sneaky peek and not delivering – why? Because I have had such an incredibly hard time choosing which images to post. There are two factors at work here, the minor factor being that there were two children. The major factor being that I have two totally different “story lines” going on in this session and I am equally partial to both of them…leading to the decision to just post the sneaky peek in two parts – saving some of my sanity and some of mom’s patience! :)

I’m calling this “the storybook series” because that is exactly what it reminds me of…please note the “fairies” dancing in the background – we hired them on specifically for this job…

love this close-up of Piper – and i love her name, it’s so fun…

meet Will or “Bus” (more on that later) – he is a handsome little man in his coordinating blue suit…*notice a change? it’s been edited*

LOVE this one – love the shadow of her foot on the rock…

pointing out the ducks in the water…

love this one of Piper and Will together – Piper is trying to give Will a rock, but he is too interested in a stick…and later he was too interested in all the mud puddles that cued the end of his blue suit… :)

…after a clothing change, we got some shots of “Bus” with his bus – apparently he’s a “cars and trucks and things that go” kind of guy – love the nickname and that mom brought such a cool toy to capture it…

stay tuned for part two: the magnolia tree…

will and sam’s final series, telling jokes…

We told a lot of jokes during this session…”knock-knock” jokes, “why’d the chicken cross the road?” jokes, and sam told several of the “I just made that one up” kind. :) Check out the bottom image in the first column…see Will’s expression? Sam had just told one of his “made up” jokes. ha! I love the look on Will’s face.

will exacting retribution for sam playing copycat…

I had such a good laugh when I first saw these images together – nothing displays brotherly love like a good thump to the head. You weren’t there, so you don’t know, but after Will thumped him, Sam was laughing hysterically behind his hand…

drink a sprite with will and sam…

In this series, Sam pulled out the classic, “copy everything your brother does until he elbows you…then copy him again” I used this one against my own older brother in times of great need…or just when I was bored…

i love a photo series or “get that leaf out of your face”…

I love a photo series – when you can catch multiple images that come together to tell a story it adds another layer to the photographs. I am tickled to get one photo series out of a session and during this session I got four.

I love this age difference – 9 and 6. 9 years old is just old enough to be a little embarrassed by your 6 year old brother, but not so old that you can’t still play, joke, horse around, and just act down right silly.

In this series, Will was initially not amused that his brother, Sam had put a leaf in front of his face on purpose. So, Will took his hand and bent the leaf over and out of the way. Having successfully annoyed his older brother, Sam instantly cracked himself up by putting on a huge grin that led to both of them laughing and the series you see here…
